"Please pass a bill so that I don't have to talk to my kids about pornography!" -Bad parents

Seriously though, when have any of us had that chat with our kids? When did your parents have that chat with you? This sort of legislation is so harmful. It's the exact opposite of what we need. People of all sorts need to know the role that pornography plays in our lives. Pornography isn't sex, it isn't a relationship, and it isn't something that should be abused. I agree that children should not be exposed to pornography at a young age. But just like the bill in California for strengthening Sex Ed; teaching what this stuff is and isn't is the best way to guard against harm.

I somewhat disagree with Hershey Squirts' comment about capitalism. There are porn actors that do so willingly, without the coercion of the capitalist economy. But as David Graber said in his book Bullshit Jobs. "...something was terribly, terribly wrong with any society that that effectively tell the vast majority of it's female population they are worth more dancing on boxes between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five than they will be at any subsequent point in their lives, whatever their talents or accomplishments."

Excuse me while I go do something else that is "potentially biologically addictive" … jogging.

Great article "The Atlantic."
